Track
Description (from track web site)
Mid America Motorplex was created to be a
national-level recreational driving facility designed to handle
racecars, streetcars, motorcycles, karts, and police cars. Many tracks
have the traditional layout with concrete walls, short run offs, minimal
facilities, and low visibility for spectators. It seems that most tracks
are packed full of concrete walls that only reward damage with the high
possibility of personal loss. At these other tracks, nearly every
weekend an unlucky driver would hit a wall. The safety truck would pull
the car off course, and then the flocks of people gathered around to
take pictures and everyone just hoped that they would be luckier,
smarter or safer. At MAM, we believe that tracks should be places to
come together as a family and should have some modern day features as
well. MAM has air-conditioned bathrooms that are clean, private climate
controlled showers, a first aid station, and seating for 7000 guests
that can view every turn and straight on the 217 acres of MAM. Great
food is always available as well as air, water, and a self-serve race
fuel station. Onsite management is another key factor in making the
facility a great success. MAM offers members a country club
style-driving club for cars, bikes, and karts, classroom instruction and
qualified instructors, barrier free driving and only minutes from the
metro Omaha area. The drag community was not forgotten and a sanctioned
NHRA strip was built. The main difference is the separation of the
facilities. Rolling Thunder Drag Strip operates simultaneously to the
road course weekly. MAM is a motorsports complex that was designed to
cater to all road racers, drag racers, and kart racers.
Mid
America Motorplex started as a simple sketch when world-renowned track
designer Alan Wilson was asked to take on the project. Mr. Wilson put
the track on the map with utmost safety in mind. He created a driver
friendly, yet challenging course that would take many laps to master.
The finished product is a 2.23 mile long racing circuit, a 40 foot wide
polymer surface, with 15 turns of increasing radiuses, decreasing
radiuses, long straights, ample passing zones, challenging switchbacks,
and a flat out kink.
MAM owner Mark Tincher had been farming the ground that the MAM track
was sketched upon. The business plan was read over, and the project
began. Non-professional racing is the fastest growing sport in the
nation. It is with this in mind that MAM's design was taken from paper
to asphalt. The MAM calendar was almost full before any earth had been
moved. The Tincher Auto Mall is just 8 minutes away and services Ford,
Chevy, and Dodge products, which is a service not found at any track in
the United States.
ROAD COURSE - Completed April 2002. Mid-America's road course is a
2.23-mile gem. Designed by world-renowned designer Alan Wilson, the
track has already become a much sought after venue for many of the
nation's top motor sports organizations. The track surface is second to
none with an incredibly tire-friendly compound that will greatly reduce
tire wear, and will promote safer adhesion for all types of vehicles.
ROAD COURSE – Alternative configuration, named “D-Curve”,
completed September 2005. MAM’s short track configuration is 1.4-miles
of fun. The kart community has its own race track! MAM karters have been
asking, and they have been listened to! D-Curve is a 40 foot wide
flat-loop interior road that bisects the longest (2222’) straight.
This gives karters the advantage of less wear and tear on their
equipment. The car and bike racers are also able to enjoy a variety in
their configuration choices.
DRAG
STRIP - Completed April 2003. The Rolling Thunder Drag Strip at MAM is a
1/8-mile NHRA Drag Racing Facility to cater to both car and bike drag
racers. This style of drag racing is gaining popularity every year,
drawing a wide variety of enthusiasts of all ages and is a lot easier on
vehicles than an "old school" ¼-mile facility. Teamed up with
the NHRA, MAM has ET Bracket Racing in addition to the Street Legal, Jr.
Dragster, and High School Programs. Rolling Thunder is also the venue of
choice for Top Fuel Harley Drags, and locally and nationally sponsored
Shootout Events.
